Booking your summer holiday should be something to look forward to. But for many, choosing a hotel becomes an unexpected source of stress, with hours spent comparing different options. Ahead of the summer, when booking pressure is high, TUI's travel expert shares their top tips for choosing the right hotel.

A large selection, unclear descriptions, and the fear of making the wrong choice can make the decision-making process feel stressful. In a survey by First Choice, part of TUI Group, two out of five travellers state that they feel overwhelmed when booking their holiday, and over a third experience so-called booking anxiety.

– Many get bogged down in comparisons and spend hours choosing a hotel, yet still feel unsure in the end or regret their choice. With a few practical tips in mind, booking becomes both easier and more secure, says Dian Martinez Valencia, Communications Manager at TUI.

An expert's three tips: How to choose the right hotel

1. Go to customer satisfaction ratings
Previous guests' reviews often give the most honest picture of a hotel. Don't just look at the average rating. Also read comments to understand what other guests appreciate and what might be less good.

2. Choose an established concept hotel
Hotels that are part of tour operators' own concepts often maintain a consistent and high standard. They are continuously reviewed and meet clear quality requirements – a reliable seal of quality for travellers.

3. Start from your interests and needs
Consider what you and your travel companions want to get out of the trip. Are you looking for peace and relaxation, family-friendly facilities, or proximity to city life and activities? Prioritise right from the start so it's easier to choose and the risk of disappointment is reduced.
