Scandic continues its expansion in Germany and opens a new hotel in Hamburg, Germany’s largest and Europe’s third largest port city. The hotel, which will have approximately 430 rooms, will offer hotel guests an exclusive guest experience with a lounge, rooftop bar, fitness center and top-floor terrace offering spectacular views of the vibrant city.
Hamburg is not only an important logistics and trade hub, but also a popular destination for both international and domestic tourists. The newly built hotel has an attractive location with high visibility towards both Ankelmannplatz and Berliner Tor station, which is a lively central hub for transport and line traffic as well as the core of one of Hamburg's most ambitious urban development projects. The location is expected to have a key position in the district.
Scandic has entered into a long-term lease agreement with landlords JV PEG and Reiss+Co. The planned opening is estimated for 2030. Guests and customers will then be offered a modern and sustainable hotel of the highest class, and with an optimal room layout that meets the needs of the most demanding business and leisure travelers. The opening of a second hotel in the city is a natural step in Scandic's growth strategy.
– Our investment is an important step in our long-term strategy to establish attractive hotel destinations in Germany. We are not just building a hotel – we are creating a place where people can meet, be inspired and feel at home, right in the heart of Hamburg, emphasizes Jens Mathiesen, President and CEO of Scandic Hotels Group.
On the ground floor, a generous restaurant and bar area creates life and movement, while the hotel's open glass facade and elegant Nordic design provide a strong visual presence.
At the top, on the tenth floor, there is a public area that houses a modern fitness center and a sky bar with a terrace. Here, guests are offered a spectacular panoramic view of Hamburg and its surroundings, embraced by a unique maritime atmosphere. Parking spaces for guests and visitors are planned in the basement of the building.
– We are pleased to begin a long-term collaboration with PEG and Reiss+Co. This investment is also an important step that strengthens and complements our presence in Hamburg – which is a leading European hub for science, research and education, with several well-regarded universities and institutions, emphasizes Jesper Engman, Senior Vice President Portfolio Development.
With nearly 2 million inhabitants, Hamburg is Germany's second largest city and the country's largest port. The city's metropolitan area ranks among Europe's top ten in terms of gross domestic product (GDP), making it a strong economic engine in the region.
