The hotel summer in Sweden was strong, with just under six per cent more hotel rooms occupied than in 2024, according to the industry organisation Visita.
A strong August, during which the number of hotel rooms sold increased by 5 percent in Stockholm and 9 percent in Malmö, resulted in the overall summer performance reaching a record level, according to preliminary figures from Benchmarking Alliance, as stated in a press release from Visita.
Outside the major cities, demand increased by just over 6 percent.
Visitor numbers increased by 8 per cent, which was most evident during June and August, driven by several major events.
Both Swedish and foreign overnight stays increased during June and July. In particular, the number of foreign overnight stays from our neighbouring countries increased. Norwegian overnight stays increased by almost 80,000, and Danish, Finnish and American overnight stays increased by approximately 50 percent compared to 2023, according to Tillväxtverket's accommodation statistics.
Statistics from the Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth do not compare with 2024, as there were reporting errors in that year's statistics.
