The number of disruptive airline passengers is increasing sharply in Sweden, according to a press release from the Swedish Transport Agency. According to them, 503 incidents were reported in 2024 – compared to 178 incidents in 2022.
The aviation industry is joining forces in a joint summer campaign to get travellers to smarten up.
"This can include threatening behaviour, harassment, intoxication, or refusing to follow the staff's instructions," says Johan Westin, an aviation inspector at the Swedish Transport Agency.
The campaign urges passengers to ”put themselves in airplane mode”.
According to the Swedish Transport Agency, there is an average of one emergency landing per month due to disruptive behaviour on board – something that can cost the responsible party hundreds of thousands of kronor.
