An SAS plane at Arlanda was evacuated after a suspicious item was found. Police later announced that the item was harmless. According to information from Aftonbladet, it was tennis balls.

The alarm was received at 18:57 on Tuesday evening. The object was reportedly discovered during boarding of a SAS-plan, according to Aftonbladet's information.

Boarding was interrupted after an item was deemed suspicious, says Peter Werring, head of press Swedavia to TT.

”The item has been examined and was found to be harmless. The cordon has been lifted.”, the police write on their website shortly after 9 PM. We are still present but have lifted the cordons, says police press spokesperson Nadya Norton. She does not want to go into what kind of object it was on the plane that aroused suspicion. But according to Aftonbladet's information, it was tennis balls.

– An investigation has been launched into airport sabotage, says Norton.

It was the onboard staff who made the decision to evacuate the plane. Cordoned-off areas were set up pending the police's assessment.

– They are investigating it now. We are cooperating with customs, who can also help with checks, said Nadya Norton at around 8:30 PM. The plane was supposed to fly to Copenhagen at around 7 PM. It eventually departed at 10:20 PM.

According to Swedavia, no departures have been cancelled due to the incident, reports TT.
