The board of Destination Inlandsbanan AB has decided to appoint Therese Fanqvist as the company's new CEO. Therese will take up the position on June 15 and succeeds Otto Nilsson, who remains CEO of the parent company Inlandsbanan AB. Therese Fanqvist has worked within the group since 2015 and has held several leadership roles over the years, including Head of Marketing and Chief Operating Officer.
During the spring, the board has been working to strengthen the organisation and create better conditions for the company's continued development. An important part of this work has been to recruit a new CEO for Destination Inlandsbanan AB. Otto Nilsson has so far combined the CEO role for both Destination Inlandsbanan AB and the parent company Inlandsbanan AB, a role that has grown in scope over time and which will require even greater focus going forward.
At the same time, Destination Inlandsbanan AB is in an important phase of development, shaped both by the infrastructure investments being made along the route and by the need to develop new offerings in line with changing travel patterns and reasons for travel.
The recruitment process has been ongoing throughout the spring with continuous dialogues and interviews to find the right person to lead the company forward.
– We are very pleased to welcome Therese as the new CEO of Destination Inlandsbanan AB. Her extensive experience from Inlandsbanan is a great asset, but above all, it is her knowledge, drive, and strong commitment to destination development that make her the right person for the role. We look forward to continuing to develop products and offerings together with the company's employees that create value for the entire inland region and our municipalities along the railway, says Stefan Ovrell, Chairman of the Board for Destination Inlandsbanan AB.
– I look forward to contributing to future-proofing the business and further developing strong offerings and products for our travellers and visitors. Now we are entering another summer where many tourists will discover the inland's fantastic environments and municipalities. Hopefully, more will choose to find a home in northern Sweden, where the light, nature and open spaces offer a unique living environment, says Therese Fanqvist.
Destination Inlandsbanan organises passenger transport on the Inlandsbanan railway, focusing on tourism and experiences. Through travel experiences in magnificent natural surroundings, the operation contributes to the development of the visitor industry in the owner municipalities along the railway. The company develops, sells, and markets package tours, rail passes, and tickets. Approximately 12,000 journeys are undertaken each season, with just over 60 per cent of travellers being Swedish and around 40 per cent international tourists.
