Scandic has signed a long-term agreement with Midroc for a new hotel in the newly established Helsingborg harbour.
The hotel is expected to open in 2021 and will house approximately 180 rooms, conference facilities, a gym, a restaurant and bar, as well as a sky bar.
– The new Scandic hotel will become an architectural landmark for Helsingborg with fantastic views of the harbour and Öresund. Its central location makes it a perfect complement to our current hotel, Scandic Helsingborg Nord, says Peter Jangbratt, Country Manager Scandic Sweden.
The new Scandic hotel is part of the large H+ project, where the old industrial harbour in Helsingborg is being transformed into a modern urban area called Oceanhamnen. The industrial area will be completely converted to house residences, offices, and shops.
On the pier, where the new Scandic hotel will be built, 32,000 square metres of commercial space are planned, which is expected to become Helsingborg's new business hub. A World Trade Center office is planned in the same building as the hotel, offering Scandic great opportunities for commercial collaborations, while the hotel will cater to both business and leisure travellers.
"The hotel will focus on both business travellers and private guests to take advantage of the increased leisure segment. Not least during the summer months, which are the busiest period in Helsingborg, says Peter Jangbratt, Country Manager Scandic Sweden.".
Helsingborg is Sweden's 8th largest city with 108,334 inhabitants in the city and 143,000 inhabitants in the entire municipality. With only 20 minutes to Helsingør, 30 minutes to Malmö, 1 hour to Copenhagen and 1.5 hours to Gothenburg, Helsingborg is an important commercial hub. Tourism, and the demand for hotel rooms, has increased steadily in Helsingborg over the past five years, and Helsingborg accounts for approximately 13 percent of the market in southern Sweden.
H+ is in turn the largest urban development project in Helsingborg in modern times. By 2035, four new and existing urban districts will be developed. The Oceanhamnen district will further strengthen Helsingborg's close connection to Öresund and create many new attractive meeting places and environments for residents and businesses. Midroc Properties is Scandic's partner and the property owner of World Trade Center Helsingborg, including the new hotel.
– The hotel will fulfil an important function both as a meeting place in the area, and for the tourism industry in general in northwestern Skåne. With Scandic, we are gaining a strong partner that can contribute with its expertise for sustainable development, says Peter Syrén, CEO of Midroc Properties.
